Our small team consists of researchers precisely selected for their proven track record of outstanding scientific achievements for which they got internationally acknowledged and a long-list of both national and international funding awarded for the scientific merit of their proposed projects.

Dr. Ahmed S. G. Khalil

Founder & CEO

Dr. Khalil stands at the forefront of technological innovation as the CEO of EvoSmarTec GmbH. With a distinguished career that merges the worlds of academia and industry, Dr. Khalil is renowned for his profound contributions to research and education in the field of advanced materials for energy and water applications. Dr. Khalil embarked on his journey in academia, earning a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Max Planck Institute in Germany in 2008 followed by several postdoctoral and research stays at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany), IBM labs in Zurich, and the University of California Berkeley (USA). Dr. Khalil has been the PI of several EU-funded projects launched by Erasmus DAAD, BMBF and NSF. Dr. Khalil has more than 90 high-ranked publications and US patents. Transitioning from academia to the corporate world, Dr. Khalil brought with him a wealth of knowledge and an innate ability to bridge the gap between research and practical application. In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Khalil has received numerous awards and accolades from both academic and industry circles. Since 2026, Dr. Khalil has been a member of the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) in Germany.

Sameh

Dr. Sameh O. Abdellatif

Dr. Sameh O. Abdellatif is the team leader of the AI group at EvoSmarTec. He is a distinguished figure in the field of AI, where he has seamlessly integrated his profound knowledge of electronics and communication with cutting-edge AI technologies. With PhD degree in semiconductor nanostructures, he has built a unique expertise that straddles both the theoretical and practical realms of AI. Sameh has been instrumental in spearheading projects that merge AI with electronics and photonics. His work in developing advanced algorithms for optimizing thin-film solar cell efficiency showcases his ability to apply AI in renewable energy technologies, a critical area in today’s climate-conscious world. His innovative approaches in using machine learning algorithms for predicting material properties and device performance have significant implications for the development of more efficient and cost-effective semiconductor technologies. Sameh has played a pivotal role in guiding young companies to harness AI for real-world applications. His mentorship has been crucial in developing AI solutions for a range of industries, from energy to electronics, demonstrating his versatility and deep understanding of AI’s practical applications.

Wafa-Al-Daily

Dr. Wafa Al-Daily

Dr. Wafa Al-Daily is the team leader of the Project Management Office at EvoSmarTec. She stands out as a leading urban planner, academic, and international development professional, with an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades in various sectors such as academia, government, non-profits, and the private industry, both within the United States and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Her expertise covers a broad spectrum of urban planning and development, including urbanization, metropolitan and regional planning, urban management, and governance, as well as disaster risk management and smart/sustainable development. Dr. Al-Daily excels in fostering international education, creating partnerships, and leading initiatives aimed at building capacities and strategic planning. Her dedication is particularly evident in her efforts to promote inclusive planning, aiming to uplift marginalized groups including women, youth, immigrants, the disabled, and indigenous communities.

Oscar-Kayanja

Oscar Kayanja

Oscar Kayanja is an engineer of materials and mechanical with a focus on materials design and development for efficient and sustainable applications. Oscar is experienced in training and supervising undergraduate and higher diploma students in engineering as well as basic and applied science fields. Oscar is skilled in mechanical systems design using computer-aided software and has also gained knowledge of developing novel materials for sustainable industrial applications. Oscar’s core research focus is on materials development for clean water and renewable/ sustainable energy applications. 

Lahoucine-Atourki

Dr. Lahoucine Atourki

Dr.Lahoucine Atourki iursued a multidisciplinary career, ranging from studies in general physics to physical chemistry and materials science. He earned his PhD from Ibn Zohr University in Morocco in collaboration with Polytechnic University in Spain and he is an alumnus of the Fulbright program. Dr. Atourki completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Georgia Tech University in the USA, working on the new generation of solar cells, and served as a visiting scientist at Polytechnic University in Spain. His primary interests revolve around the development, modeling, and investigation of novel materials for energy-water systems. Beyond his academic pursuits, he serves as the president of the Scientific Morocco Association, an NGO dedicated to science education and climate change adaptation.

Dr. Sara Abdel Hamid Abdel Gaber

Sara obtained her MSc and PhD from the German University in Cairo in the field of pharmacology. She was awarded several DAAD fellowships and had research stays at many German Universities such as Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Ulm, and Munich. She has +15 years of teaching to students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and could manage various funded projects. Sara is involved in the accreditation process and quality assurance of both the teaching material and teaching methods. She is engaged in societal activities such as awareness campaigns and community outreach. She is experienced in scientific communication with non-experts
